Two letters, a vowel and a consonant, joined together to form one small and potentially impactful word.
It’s been said that “small hinges swing large doors”.
What’s true of doors is also true of how words are used.
This one seemingly insignificant word when used in a negative context allows one to enter into a world of regrets.
When used with a positive spin, it is like Cinderella being invited to the King’s ball and with it imagining a host of possibilities.
Depending on one’s perspective, the glass is either half empty or half full.
In the author’s own words, “All that stands between you and your wildest dreams is one little – IF”.
I couldn’t agree more!
I had the opportunity to be part of the book launch team for Mark Batterson’s new book, IF – Trading Your If Only Regrets for God’s What If Possibilities.
In short, this read is phenomenal!
I personally do not know Mark.
However, after reading his latest work I feel as if we sat down together at a coffee shop and simply talked.
If I lived in or near DC it would have to be Ebenezer’s Coffee House, of course (read the book).
I sipped the brew of this book daily for the past month, as the author suggested, to absorb the full aroma of the gem which it is.
There have been times in my world where the song I have been singing began with the words, if only this or if only that.
You know the drill.
If only I earned more money.
If only I could lose a few more pounds.
If only he did not get in the way of my promotion.
If only I had the right connections.
Given enough time, the if only’s take on a life of their own and rob us of the life we were truly meant to live.
The Land of Regrets is not where we were meant to take up residence.
Mark is a down-to-earth author and writer.
He is one of us.
He poses the thought of entertaining What If possibilities, allowing the door to swing in the opposite direction.
I won’t sugar coat it or keep it under wraps.
He bases his premise on the What If possibilities found in what he refers to as the Great Eight, the eighth chapter of the book of Romans in the New Testament.
Most specifically, Mark begs the question of What If possibilities by examining the truth “if God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
What he writes is not religious-speak.
It is very much real life, where the-rubber-meets-the-road, hope-speak.
If you are plagued by the thoughts distilled by the words If Only, I would highly encourage you to order a copy of this book as a means to discovering your What If possibilities.
What If you allowed the small hinge of If to allow your door to swing in the opposite direction by flushing If Only thinking?
I personally have been asking the question for some time and this book served as a positive reinforcement (and a good kick in the pants!) of what could become possible by a shift in my thinking.
What could be made possible for you?
Do yourself or someone you love a favor and buy a copy – you won’t regret it.
